FNHE Hosts Orientation Programme for Newly Recruited Staff

The Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu (FNHE), held an orientation programme for its newly recruited staff on 23rd July, 2026. The programme was organized to familiarize the new employees with the Public Service rules, the hospital’s operations, and the expectations of their roles.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Ngozichukwu Nneka Unaogu; the Director of Administration, Dr. Ndidi Igwenagu; and the Head of Training, Dr. Udo Kenechukwu, alongside other members of the hospital’s top management, were present at the event.

In her welcome address, the Medical Director officially received the new staff and emphasized that they were recruited to serve humanity. She highlighted the hospital’s core mandates, which include providing quality mental healthcare, training healthcare professionals, conducting research, and rendering other specialized services. She also noted that the orientation programme was designed to equip the new staff with the knowledge required to function effectively within the Civil Service and the hospital system.

Speaking during the programme, the Director of Administration, Dr. Ndidi Igwenagu, reminded the participants that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. She explained that the orientation was organized to acquaint them with the norms and regulations governing the Civil Service and stressed that any staff member who violates the Public Service Rules would be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of the rules.

The programme featured a series of informative lectures covering a wide range of topics, including the background and history of the hospital, the organizational structure, staff duties and expected attitudes, leave policies, discipline which is an essential component in any successful organization especially in healthcare institutions where lives, safety, dignity and well-being of the patients depend on the conduct of the staff, misconduct and serious misconduct, as well as other provisions of the Public Service Rules.

Dr. Ndidi Igwenagu encouraged the new employees to remain committed to the hospital’s mandate of serving humanity and emphasized the importance of strict compliance with the Public Service Rules. She advised them to obtain personal copies of the Public Service Rules as a guide throughout their careers in the Civil Service.

In her closing remarks, the Medical Director, Dr. Ngozichukwu Nneka Unaogu, urged the newly recruited staff to be diligent, disciplined, and dedicated in the discharge of their duties while upholding the values and standards of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu.
